OXBOW - Oxbow has a lot of activities to offer people every summer.

According to information supplied by Treena Mohrbutter, the town’s community development officer, Oxbow is a thriving and progressive community.

“The nearby Moose Creek Regional Park, Bow Valley Park and Souris Valley are breathtaking year-round, and home to an abundance of wildlife. Oxbow offers amazing restaurants and outdoor fun,” states a summer fun guide for the community.

Bow Valley Park, which will play host to the Bow Valley Jamboree on Aug. 6, is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise, according to the brochure. It offers full-service campgrounds, a kayak and boat launches, pavilion, walking trails, potable drinking water, a children's playground, showers and bathrooms, ball diamonds, a batting cage, an outdoor theatre and an RV dumping station.

The Ralph Allen Memorial Museum is housed in a converted CN Rail station and displays a collection of historical artifacts of Oxbow and the area.

Moose Creek Golf Course is located northwest of the town and is a beautiful grass-green, nine-hole golf course along the shores of Grant Devine Lake.

The Oxbow Community Pool opened in 2019 with a junior Olympic swimming pool and splash park. Red Cross swimming lessons are offered in June, July and August, while public swimming and festivities occur throughout the summer.

The town also has a number of murals. In 2012, Otto Neuman and Mike Bartolf toured the town with Alan Hamann of Access Communications to point out Oxbow’s historic homes, churches and commercial buildings. The 30-minute historical walk features five murals.

A farmers’ market allows people to enjoy local vendors every Thursday from 5-7 pm on Bow Street.

New for this year is a block party program that was created to help make a safer, more connected community.

“Knowing your neighbours makes a safer community, helps newcomers feel welcome to our beautiful town, and encourages networking. The past two years have been hard to connect with neighours, friends and our community [so] we felt that this was an important program to support,” the brochure states.

The Town of Oxbow and the 小蓝视频ern Plains Co-op are sponsoring program for the months of July and August. They supply hotdogs, hamburgers and buns. Loaner recreation equipment bags have been assembled with a grant from 小蓝视频east Sport, Culture & Recreation District. Guides and invitations have been created to help residents host a successful block party.
