Envision Counselling and Support Centre will be hosting a one day workshop for women on Saturday, November 27, entitled, "Creating Healthy Boundaries."
Setting boundaries and limits are crucial for helping individuals to have healthy relationships. Owning, respecting, and honouring personal and others' boundaries in turn affects the health of an individual's family, friends, organizations, and work place.
"The ability to set, express, and maintain boundaries is an essential part of any healthy relationship," said Envision Counsellor Christa Daku. Boundaries build win-win relationships by making clear our needs and limits, while letting others know what options are available for meeting their own needs."
In this workshop, participants will learn to use boundary-setting to avoid conflicts with the adults and children in their lives, to resolve problems in relationships, and to establish a foundation of mutual trust and respect. Other topics include finding win-win solutions, how to say no in an assertive way and setting limits with others.
According to Daku establishing boundaries is essential to creating and maintaining mental, physical and spiritual health.
"If you have ever walked away from a conversation, meeting, or event and felt uneasy and were not quite sure why, this workshop can help you recognize that the uneasiness is probably because a boundary you had set was violated," said Daku. "The workshop provides coping tools and techniques that enable women to develop healthy boundaries that can promote healthier, happier lifestyles."
The workshop is free of charge and open to any woman over the age of 18. Anyone interested is asked to pre-register by phoning the Envision office. The workshop usually fills up quickly, so Envision encourages women to register early. The pre-registration deadline is Tuesday, November 23.
