The contributions and dedication of local women in the community will be recognized in April, during the 11th annual Women of the Year awards, sponsored by the Weyburn Quota International Club and SaskPower. Local businesses and community groups are 小蓝视频 called upon to nominate women into four award categories.
"These awards acknowledge the contributions of women and it provides us with an opportunity to raise funds for two worthwhile areas of service - disadvantaged women and children and for hearing and speech impaired persons," said Kathy Coroluick, awards chair.
The SaskPower Workplace Excellence award is presented to a woman who has excelled in the workplace by displaying a superior effort and a true desire to significantly improve her profession, work environment and workplace efficiency.
The Quota International of Weyburn Community Service award will recognize a woman who, as a volunteer, has demonstrated a commitment to enrich her community, to alleviate social inequities, to strengthen volunteer participation, to education, or to provide leadership in the community.
The Access Communications Exceptional Entrepreneur award is presented to a woman for exceptional leadership or innovation in starting, operating or owning a business and who remains active in the business.
The Investors Group Young Women of Distinction award will be presented to a young woman between the ages of 18 and 30 who has made a significant contribution to the life of her community and demonstrates a capacity for leadership.
All nominees for Women of the Year awards will be honoured in a special tea in late March, and then presentations of the awards will be made at a luncheon on Tuesday, Apr. 12 at McKenna Hall.
The keynote speaker will be Joanne Thomson, vice-principal of Assiniboia Park Elementary School and the Learning Support Teacher. She will speak on the contribution of hearing systems by Quota International of Weyburn into local schools.
Nominees for the awards must be living and resident in Weyburn or within a 50-kilometre radius of Weyburn. They must be 18 years of age or over.
The selection committee is an independent group of volunteers; their deliberations are confidential and their decisions are based solely on information presented in the nomination package. If there are, in the opinion of the selection committee, no suitable nominees for any of the four awards, the selection committee reserves the right not to present an award.
The submission deadline for nominees is Monday, March 14. Nomination forms for Women of the Year are available at Brady's House of Flowers.
