A new business is up-and-running in Carlyle. Ron Thompson opened Legacy Small Engine Repair officially on Sept 1. "I've been working off and on out of my garage for about a year now, working on my personal things or fixing for friends, but Sept. 1st was officially the start of Legacy Small Engine."
Thompson's love for fixing small engines dates back to his childhood. "I have been fixing small engines since I was a kid," said Thompson. "By the age of 10 years old, I was learning to fix and repair my own motors. The last couple of years, I have been doing more and more repairs for friends and family in my spare time."
"My dad, who was a licensed mechanic, taught me most of the things I know while I was growing up on a farm. I worked for a few years at Mark Marine, and received some certificates for Kohler and Stihl while working there. I have held other jobs over the last few years that have allowed me to use my mechanics on a daily basis."
Thompson decided to start his own business in order to work in closer proximity to his family. "This business is an opportunity to earn a living, and start to pass on some of the things I leared from my dad onto my children."
The business offers a number of services for the community of Carlyle and area. Thompson is capable of fixing all types of small engines ranging from snowmobiles to quads to motorbikes to boats. But don't forget about lawn mowers and chainsaws because Thompson can fix those as well. "I do anything from an oil change to a complete overhaul," said Thompson. "Big or small jobs!"
As for Thompson's favourite thing about repairing small engines, "I enjoy helping someone out and taking their equipment and restoring it back to working order. I also like to modify machines and get creative, to give a customer more than they were hoping for."
As for the name, "I named my business Legacy Small Engine Repair because as a mechanic who learned mechanics from my father, I have received the blessing of legacy. And as a husband and father of six, I desire to pass on a good and Godly legacy to my children."
Thompson's business is located out of his garage at 215 5th Street West. So, if you have something which needs to be fixed, you know where to find him. "Being out of my garage at home, it makes it easy to help meet a customer's needs," said Thompson.
