A public stake holder's meeting was held in Weyburn recently to discuss the possible need for a new facility to house a variety of programs that would serve the residents of the city and beyond. The event was hosted by the Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop Corp. (WWS) and Weyburn Group Homes Society Inc. (WGHS).

Approximately 45 individuals representing various interests in the community were in attendance.

"Because of the recent expansion of residential services for individuals with disabilities in our community, there is a need to develop day programs for these individuals," said WWS Executive Director Andria Brady. "The agency's goals are to create programs and supports that do not segregate based on disability but are inclusive based on identified needs. With this in mind, a shared facility housing more than one community program was envisioned."

The agencies agreed to partner to host community meetings to determine if other members of the community could be served while addressing the needs of WWS and WGHS and the individuals they serve.

The sessions added a unique perspective of the community. The facilitator created a process which gave a voice to the members of the community present as to what is currently working well for existing programs, services and facilities in Weyburn and area; what is not working well and where are the gaps; as well as who might be possible community and/or program partners.

The next step involves striking a committee to develop a strategic plan for this shared community facility initiative. The board of directors from both agencies have met and are moving forward with plans. The request for the formation of a support group for parents and family members of individuals with disabilities is also 小蓝视频 carried out.
