A head-on collision has claimed the life of a Bienfait woman.
Members of the local RCMP detachment, Estevan Police and Fire Rescue Services and ambulance personnel were called to the scene of an accident at the intersection of Highways 39 and 18 at 8:30 Thursday morning.
Although investigation into the collision is continuing, it's believed the deceased was driving west in her sport utility vehicle and was struck head-on as she was exiting the merge lane onto Highway 39. The 27-year-old, who was the lone occupant in the vehicle, died at the scene.
The 38-year-old driver of the east-bound truck was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Regina. Her condition is unknown at this time. She was also the lone occupant of her vehicle.
Sgt. Ryan Currie with the Estevan RCMP said although the results of an investigation by their collision analyst won't be available for a few weeks, he believes that road conditions played a factor in the incident.
"I can't say that it was the cause, but it had some bearing on it because the roads were very icy (Thursday morning)," said Currie. "It's that time of year and with this weather pattern that just showed up the other day, it got very warm (Wednesday night) and brought out a lot of frost and I think that contributes to the roadways 小蓝视频 really slippery."
Currie said the RCMP has handled a number of accidents in recent weeks and he would like to remind drivers to exercise caution when they are behind the steering wheel.
"The speed limits are there for perfect road conditions," he said. "Remember to drive according to the road conditions."
