Local resident Ivan Robb was awarded the 2010 Al McGuire "Transition to Employment" award at a banquet in Saskatoon on June 18 for transitioning into an employment situation and displaying a strong work ethic. He was nominated for this prestigious award by the Saskatchewan Association of Rehabilitation Centres (SARC) and chosen from applications throughout Saskatchewan. Each year, the Al McGuire Awards are presented to individuals who have shown the dedication and hard work necessary to make the improvements they want in their lives. These awards are made possible through a fund established in honour of the late Al McGuire who served on the SARC Board of Directors. Each year his wife Josie bestows the award on the deserving recipient at the banquet held in conjunction with SARC's Annual General Meeting.Ivan Robb has been employed by the Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop Corp. in their SARCAN Depot as a Recycling Technician since June 2009.Executive Director Andria Brady stated that these awards are just one of many ways that SARC shows its commitment to the enhancement of the lives of individuals in Member agencies. "We are all so proud of Ivan and all that he has achieved over the past year. He has put so much effort into this and is seeing the rewards for all his hard work. I would like to thank the team of people who have assisted him - there is a group who has been there for Ivan, providing him with the motivation, support and encouragement he needed in order to achieve this goal. Our SARCAN depot is lucky to have him!"SARC is a provincial non-profit association that represents community-based organizations (such as the Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop Corp.) who provide services for individuals with disabilities.
