If you notice lots of light aircraft over Carlyle on June 26, the reason is the hosting of the annual Fly-In Breakfast at the airport. Yes, the sounds of Continental and Lycoming engines will be purring over the town, as Cessnas, Pipers, Beechcraft and sundry other examples of the world of general aviation will congregate at the airport.
Aircraft owners, their friends, and members of the flying club will enjoy the fellowship of the aviation community and of course the hearty breakfast. However, you don't have to be a pilot to attend, as the event is open to everyone in the area. If you have any interest in aviation you'll enjoy every minute of the four-hour celebration of flight, chatting with the pilots from across the province and looking at their aircraft. It's a great opportunity for people to learn about flying, too, and there will even be opportunities for pleasure flights, weather permitting of course.
This year the event will also include the opening ceremonies for the newly-paved runway, complete with the new paint down the centreline. The 3,200 ft runway is large enough to host any general aviation or light business aircraft. It's even seen a regional airliner landing here in the past.
So whether you come by air, car, or just on foot, you are most welcome with the fun beginning at 8 a.m. For those who plan to fly to the event, the Unicom frequency is 122.8 Mhz within 5 nm and 5100 feet ASL.
