Lake Alma family holds farm centennial celebration

Lake Alma (cpd) A Farm Centennial celebration was held at the Ken and Grace Hagen Farm on July 31 with approximately 90 relatives and friends signing the register which included Graces mother and all of her siblings from Alberta, Ontario and Saskatchewan. The afternoon started out with Dennis, Chris and Derek Rude providing musical entertainment, followed by a program by Don and Gene Grant of Regina providing a history of the 100 years the farm had been in the Hagen family.Don had written a booklet, Sagas of the Hagen Homestead, which was distributed to all the relatives present. Bob Thue, Reeve of the R.M. of Lake Alma, presented the Hagens with a plaque commemorating 100 years. Grace Hagen and their boys Kyle, Matt and Kjel presented Ken with a painted picture of the farm as it is today painted by Sheila Tysdal, his sister. There was a display of pictures and memorabilia set up in their garage for all to view.Cakes made by Viola Lunde were cut and served after the program.

A roast beef and potluck supper was enjoyed by all in attendance, but had to be eaten in the garage due to a rainstorm that brought an inch of rain to the farm. The Hagens painted their big hip-roofed barn themselves with help from Chris and Derek Rude and their boys before the occasion.Delores and Duane Larsen of Weyburn spent Aug. 2 at Lake Alma and at the Roy Lohse farm. Delores helped Melissa and Myrna at Melissas house and Duane spent time at the farm. Ken Johnson was busy on Thursday laying laminate flooring for her so it will soon be ready to move into.Clare and Ida Offet travelled to Moosomin on July 31 where they were joined by Laird and Marie Russell-Yearwood of Brandon, Jay and Carrie Blackmore, Marg and Harold Blackmore, Taylor and Morgan, Craig and Courtney Offet and her friend Tiah of Regina at Curtis and Deena Offets where they all enjoyed a delicious supper in celebration of Marg and Harolds 40th wedding anniversary. After supper they all went down to Moosomin Regional Park where Curtis had his boat docked and some went for boat rides and tubing. They were joined by Suzanne and Rick Brown who were camped at the park to watch the second annual Saskatchewan Fireworks Competition, Living Skies Come Alive.Winnipeg Archangel Fireworks Inc., did their display that night. On Sunday after lunch everyone went back down to the park and took in the festivities of the day which included face-painting, kids games and races, an Inflatable midway, free pontoon boat rides, slow pitch tournament, and an Idol Contest. In the evening, everyone gathered at Rick and Suzannes campsite where a bonfire was made, wieners were roasted, fresh fish was fried and a picnic was enjoyed. Then it was time to go down to the lake to watch Ruggieri Fireworks and Special Effects of Regina do their display of fireworks. Both displays were spectacular, but in the end Regina was the winner.On Monday some went fishing and then after brunch all but a few went down to the lake for some more boating. Morgan ended up with a cast on her arm that morning, due to falling off her bike the day before and fracturing her arm. Everyone departed for their respective homes in the late afternoon. Curtis went back into Regina with the Harold Blackmores to start his chemo and radiation treatments on Tuesday morning.

Several from the area attended the wedding of Bridget Storle, only daughter of Chuck and Valerie Storle to Tyler Cain, son of Dave and Leanne Cain of Nipawin on July 31. It was held at Willow Island in Regina and the weather was perfect for an outdoor wedding. The newlyweds flew out of Regina to B.C. for a sightseeing honeymoon. They will make their home in Nipawin where Tyler is employed with Camaco.Some from the district attended the 65th wedding anniversary celebration for Ted and Gertie Fladeland held at the Gladmar School gym in the afternoon of July 31. Delores and Duane Larsen took Belva Johnson down to the celebration and she was able to see relatives of hers that she had not seen in a very long time. Belvas sister, Eleanor Larson and her daughters were also in attendance.Anyone in the area that had a connection to Radville took in the Homecoming weekend there on July 30-31 and Aug. 1-2.Delores and Duane Larsen accompanied Clare and Ida Offet of Weyburn to Regina on Aug. 4 where they visited with their son, Curtis, and took him to the Pasqua Hospital for his treatment. The Offets had lunch with Curtis and Suzanne Brown before going to the hospital. Curtis is staying with Marg and Harold Blackmore during the week. Deena and family came to Regina on Wednesday and they all took in the Regina Exhibition on Thursday and then returned to Moosomin after his treatment on Friday morning.
