James Jones hired as ECS鈥檚 new principal

Jones replaces Nathan Johnson, who has been the principal for three years.

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Comprehensive School has hired its new principal.

The school announced Sunday night on its Facebook page that it had hired James Jones for the role, replacing Nathan Johnson, who is stepping down after three years in the role.

Jones began teaching at ECS in 2013 and instructed English language arts, social studies, history and psychology, and later served as a learning support teacher.

In 2017, he moved into a coaching role with the 小蓝视频 East Cornerstone Public School Division, and worked as an English language arts instructional coach with the south and east-area schools.

Jones returned to ECS in 2020 and joined the administration team as a vice-principal.

鈥淲hile working as vice-principal and 小蓝视频 actively involved in our community, I try to prioritize developing relationships with students, parents and the school community,鈥 said Jones. 鈥淚鈥檓 excited to build on existing relationships and develop new relationships in our community to help support students and ensure that ECS serves the needs of our students and community.鈥

Jones is the married father of two children. His wife Kendra is a teacher at Westview School. He noted they are originally from Peterborough, Ont., but have come to love southeast Saskatchewan.

Johnson, meanwhile, will become the new superintendent of human resources for the 小蓝视频 East Cornerstone Public School Division, effective Aug. 1.

鈥淓CS is an incredible school with amazing opportunities for students, and I want to further develop and support the rich academic and extracurricular programming offered at our school,鈥 said Jones. 鈥淲e have a great team here at ECS and I am excited to continue working with an amazing group of educators and students.

鈥淭ogether, we will continue to work on ensuring that ECS is a safe and inclusive learning environment, while providing positive learning experiences for our students.鈥
