Jail and Bail is back for its second year!
The fundraiser, which raised money to purchase SMART boards for the elementary school, is organized by the Carlyle Elementary School SCC (School Community Council). The boards have the capacity to not only act as an interactive whiteboard, but also as a projector. This technology provides the school teachers with a number of options for their classrooms.
With the help of the local RCMP, this year's Jail and Bail will take place on Nov. 4. For those with 'outstanding arrest warrants,' be prepared to have a visit from a local detachment member.
Not only will you be handcuffed and taken to the elementary school gymnasium, but you will have your mug shot taken, be read your alleged charges and have your bail announced.
At that point, you will be required to meet your 'bail' before leaving the gymnasium. But don't worry, you will be allowed to keep your cell phone and contact list. At that point, let the phoning begin.
Last year, the initiative raised more than $16,000 during the one-day event. Twenty-seven people were arrested in total. "I was completely overwhelmed by the support we received last year," said Tammie Riddell. "I think our goal last year was to raise $5,000 so that we could bring two SMART boards in. When $16,000 was raised last year, I almost couldn't believe it."
Last year, those raising funds far exceeded the community council's expectations. "Some people went over and above their suggested bail amount. People who had a $500 bail, went on to raise $2,500. That was amazing. I was really impressed with the community support."
Judy Riddell raised a total of $2,800 including a $2,500 donation from the Homespun board. Jared Riddell followed by raising a total of $2,500.
And even with all of the fundraising efforts last year, there are at least two more SMART boards that are required to fill the classrooms at the Carlyle Elementary School. Each SMART board costs approximately $2,500, in addition to a number of costs such as wiring and the School Community Council needs your help in completing this project.
So, if you know of anyone that needs 'arrested' for a good cause, now is the time to fill out that warrant form.
Arrest warrants only cost $25 to fill out with all money going to the elementary school. To have someone arrested, all you have to do is fill out an 'arrest warrant' and drop it off at the
elementary school by the Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. Any person issuing an arrest warrant will remain anonymous, in addition to having the ability to set the bail (minimum of $100).
The accused will be notified by phone prior to their arrest on Nov. 4. Arrests will start at 9 a.m. and will continue until 4 p.m. Those accused will be required to spend a minimum of one hour raising his or her bail.
