The Weyburn Humane Society drew a winner for their 50/50 raffle at their annual general meeting on December 15, giving one lucky resident some additional Christmas spending money.
Minnie Borshowa of Weyburn won $2,715 from the raffle. The Humane Society began selling tickets for this fundraising raffle in October.
During the meeting, the Humane Society reported a net income loss of $16,934, due largely to a decrease in donations and adoption fees.
Gross revenue for the Society for 2010 was $70,624, down from $96,774 in 2009. Expenditures in 2010 were $87,364, down from $92,109 in 2009.
In 2010, the Society housed 288 dogs, 140 cats and two rabbits. For dogs, 180 came in through animal control, 78 by the public, 12 by the SSPCA and 18 were relinquished by owners.
For cats, 39 were brought in by animal control, 91 by the public, and five were relinquished by owners.
Two rabbits, 58 dogs and 105 cats were adopted, 208 dogs and 17 cats were reclaimed by their owners and 12 cats were euthanized.
Vice-president Kelly Eddy was elected president at the meeting as long-time president, Dave Frayn, retired from the position. Five new members joined the board at the meeting.
