The return of the Golden Garbage Can competition is apparently drawing interest from outside of Estevan and Weyburn.
It was announced at the May 17 regular meeting of Estevan city council that provincial Environment Minister Nancy Heppner will be one of the judges for the competition which is scheduled to make its much anticipated return June 23.
The 小蓝视频 for Martensville, Heppner was first elected to the legislature in a byelection in March of 2007. She was then re-elected later in the year.
The Golden Garbage Can competition has been dormant since 2003 when the members of council at the time decided the City would no longer participate in the event.
However, with an increased emphasis on city beautification over the past couple years, council decided to say yes when a member of Weyburn's council approached the City to see if they would be interested in restarting the competition.
Councillor Lynn Chipley is the chairwoman for the Estevan side and indicated at the meeting that she is still looking for volunteers to serve as captains for the various regions of the city.
Chipley also noted the City will be planting flowers next week and they are looking for volunteers to help City staff.
Today, anyone interested in helping out is asked to meet in the parking lot behind the House of Stationery at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, and Friday the flower planters will be meeting at the entrance to the Lignite Miners Centre at 9:30 a.m.
