The Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation received a boost from the community, after the Weyburn Travelodge and El Rancho hosted its second annual Greek Feast fundraiser for the Foundation on Jan. 15.

The evening was declared a success by the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation. "We are very grateful to everyone who attended and supported this event," said Bill Holliday, Foundation vice-chair. "Our community is rallying behind this project and it is exciting to see this momentum building."

"We acknowledge and thank the people who donated items for the auction, the management and staff at the Travelodge and El Rancho, those who bought the auction items, and all who attended," added Holliday. Local auctioneer Kevin Lackey volunteered to auction items donated by Aaron Well Servicing Ltd., Valleyview Petroleum Ltd., New Age Electronics, Graham DeLaet, Lydia Millker and York Jewellers.

Also auctioned at the Greek Feast was 10 boxes of plates donated by the Travelodge, all of which were broken as part of the evening's fun. The event raised $20,300 for the Foundation.

"We had a sell-out crowd that was treated to traditional Greek food and a performance by Greek dancers that lasted the entire evening," said George Siourounis, representing the Weyburn Travelodge. "Everyone received an opportunity to take part in another Greek tradition when boxes of plates were auctioned off. It was wonderful to see all our friends and neighbours out together having such a good time."

The Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation Inc. is a registered charity operated by a volunteer board of directors. The Foundation's vision is to fund raise for a new hospital in Weyburn, which will serve the people of Weyburn and the surrounding district.
