Moms, dads, grandmas and grandpas were honoured at the Bernard Kot Parent/Grandparent of the Year awards. Hosted by The Family Place, the event was held in conjunction with the Chocolate Decadence evening at McKenna Hall on February 12.
The event saw a winner in only one category this year, as the recipient of the Parent of the Year respectfully declined the title.
Grandparent of the Year went to a very gracious Myrna McFadden.
"I already won because of the kids I have and the grandkids I have," said McFadden. "Having won (Grandparent of the Year) was just the icing on the cake."
McFadden owns and operates the concession at Crescent Point Place and has enjoyed having all of her nine grandchildren working there in some capacity over the years.
"All of them help in their own way," said McFadden. "Some get paid in candy and some with wages."
McFadden said that the love and support her family has for one another is what helped her survive 小蓝视频 a single mother with five children. Now, as a business owner employing several grandchildren, she said that they have taught her as much as she has taught them.
"I think they have taught me how to be a good grandparent because their love is unconditional," said McFadden.
Nominees for the Grandparent of the Year included Yvette Rivere, Wendy Fladeland, Murray Martin, and Larry and Linda Clarke. Parent of the Year nominees included Danielle Johnston and another nominee who wished to go un-named.
