The Senior Girls' Team will be curling in Arcola or Lampman on Feb. 14 and 15. The Juniors will be in Weyburn on March 10 and 11. Anyone wanting to compete should keep these days open.

After a very successful season last year, the GF Kells Drama Club has started meeting Monday evenings at 7:00 to select a play, or maybe 2, for the upcoming season.

Senior badminton will be starting shortly. Interested students should sign-up as soon as possible.

The grade 7-9 students had another very successful Spirit Day on Friday, January 14. Mr. Johnson again did a tremendous job organizing the event. Students had an opportunity to play Ping Pong Bounce, Word Challenge Catch Phrase, Puzzle Mania, and Capture the Flag. All of the G.F. Kells middle years students had a lot of fun while learning more about teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.

The school is planning a ski trip to Assesippi Ski Resort on Friday, February 11th. All forms and cheques need to be returned to the school by Monday, January 24th. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Johnson at the school.

Gordon F. Kells will be offering the opportunity for students in Grade 10, 11, and 12, and their parents to travel to California during Easter Break 2012. Students and parents who are interested would be responsible for paying for the trip since we would not be doing any sort of fundraising. On the trip we would be seeing San Francisco, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles with the possibility of extending the trip to San Diego and an optional excursion to Alcatraz Island. Please contact Miss Down at the school for any other information.

If you have an inquiry regarding any of the magazines that you ordered, please phone the Toll Free Number 1-800-667-2536 with the following information and someone will assist you. 1. Name of Magazine. 2. Name & Address of Customer. 3. Approximate Date of Purchase.

Along with the school, the Student Council is fundraising in order to purchase two virtual information signs. We are looking for sponsorship with the potential for advertising on these high tech signs. Anyone interested should contact Mr. Howe at the school.

We at GFK would like to remind the public that when you are uncomfortable with something you see or hear about our school, we ask you to do the following:

Call the school, but don't do so anonymously. Identify yourself so that reasonable and trusting two-way communication may be conducted.

Speak only of your concerns. If "all" your neighbors share your concern, the schoolhouse door is open for them to meet with the principal or teacher on their own.

Go first to the source of your concern. Don't "jump over the head" of the teacher to contact the principal if it is a classroom issue. Similarly, if the issue is school-related, your first contact should be the principal (or vice-principal).

Use our School Community Council, regularly scheduled principal/parent meetings, parent-teacher conferences, etc.. These provide avenues for communication between parents, community members, and our school.

Read the information sent home from our school. Read the school's blog. Encourage and expect your middle/junior high/high school student to bring home school communications. Post our newsletter on the fridge.

Read "Cougar Corner", where information may have been reported.

We want open communication and you can always contact us. The shortest distance between us and the public is the distance between you and the phone. You want to know, you have the right to know, and you should know. So please ask.

Please remember:

Don't let a rumor or a concern "simmer and stew" inside of you for weeks or months. Immediately defuse your discomfort by meeting with the appropriate school personnel.

The myth of "If I make 'waves' my child will suffer" is simply not true.

The vast majority of rumors are born out of misunderstandings. Rely on school personnel for clarification of any issues that concern you.
