The Golden Sheaf Award was presented to Keith Kaufmann at the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce's Farmer Appreciation Night on November 2.

Kaufmann said it was "fantastic" to be honoured by the farming community.

"Anytime people recognize your accomplishments over the years it's appreciated," said Kaufmann.

Kaufmann is president of Border Line Feeders Inc. near his Ceylon-area farm. Kaufmann initiated the idea of the locally owned feedlot five years ago. Starting with 7,300 head of cattle, the operation has grown to 12,000 head and the final phase will be 20,000 head.

Border Line Feeders won the Community Involvement Award at the recent Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce ABEX Awards.

Kaufmann has been dedicated to his community over the years. He became an RM Councillor in 1980 and took the position of Reeve from 2001 to present. He has also been a Ceylon Regional Park board member since 1980. He has been involved with various 4-H clubs and the Ceylon Lions Club.

Kaufmann grew up on the farm he currently owns and operates with his wife Linda, their son Shane and his wife Alexis, who have four children. Kaufmann and Linda also have a daughter named Stacey who works in Weyburn but continues to help out on the family farm.

Kaufmann inherited the farm after the sudden passing of his father in 1971. At the time, the farm consisted of six quarters of land and ran 25 head of cattle. Today, known as 小蓝视频 View Ranch, the farming and ranching operation has expanded to 55 quarters of land and runs 400 head of purebred Angus females and 100 head of commercial Angus.

Kaufmann said that his municipality had excellent hay crops and pastures this year as they did not see as much rain as the rest of the province. He said that the 12 inches of rainfall that was experienced in the Ceylon-area this summer made for an exceptional harvest.

Kaufmann believes in 小蓝视频 a steward of the land. His farm contains 37 quarters of native prairie land. He reports all ground owls to Nature Saskatchewan and has been awarded for improving Piping Plover habitat. He has also worked with Ducks Unlimited and their programs over the years.

During the awards 小蓝视频, greetings were given by Chamber President Twila Walkeden, Weyburn Agricultural Society President Wendy Neiszner, Weyburn-Big Muddy 小蓝视频 Dustin Duncan, Mayor Debra Button, RM of Weyburn Reeve Carmen Sterling and Souris-Moose Mountain MP Ed Komarnicki.
