Students had a great time taking part in the Halloween Door Decorating Contest at school last week. The doors' themes ranged from funny to scary to tasty. Students also had a Halloween dress-up day on Friday. It was a lot of fun checking out all of the great costumes in the hallways. The students were also given an unexpected treat on Friday Oct. 29th when Mr. Fehrenbach was arrested for the elementary school's "Jail and Bail Fundraiser." Just after lunch, the RCMP showed up at the high school to arrest Mr. Fehrenbach. His attempt to flee was quickly foiled when the 4 officers demonstrated just how quickly a suspect can be apprehended and cuffed. Mr. Fehrenbach raised $400 for the fundraiser and was then released.
The junior girls' volleyball team participated in a tournament in Carnduff last Friday evening and Saturday. They played well and finished second in their pool, but they lost out in the 3rd set of a playoff game. The senior girls competed in a tournament in Midale last weekend and made it all the way to the semi-finals.
A University of Regina representative will be at G.F. Kells on Tuesday, Nov. 9, to speak to all of the grade 12 students. The grade 12's continue to meet regularly with Mrs. Shaw, the school's career counsellor, to discuss their career plans for the future.
On Wednesday, November 10th, Grade 7 to 9 students will be participating in the 2nd Day of the Middle Years Afternoon Days. The purpose of these afternoons is to develop school spirit and team building with the emphasis on fun and enjoyment. It is a blast for all and we look forward to another great year of activities. At this time, Mr. Johnson is looking for parent volunteers to help out as Team Leaders (with teachers) to make this more of a community event. If you are interested in helping out this time, please contact Mr. Johnson at the school.
If you are looking for a Christmas idea for your son or daughter, we may have something that interests you. Mr. Johnson and Mr. Birch have put together the first ever GFK Clothing Line and will soon be open for business with all the items. In the next couple of weeks, order forms will be available and all art work will be displayed for the various items. To begin, GFK will be offering track suits, hoodies, sweats, t-shirts (with long sleeve options) and golf shirts. Please check out the blog for additional information in the days ahead!
The school newsletter has been mailed to all parents. If you do not have one, come on over to the school and pick one up.
Along with the school, the Student Council is fundraising in order to purchase two virtual information signs. We are looking for sponsorship with the potential for advertising on these high tech signs. Anyone interested should contact Mr. Howe at the school.
