The annual RCMP 'Breakfast with Santa' took place over the Dickens weekend, raising much needed funds and foods for the Carlyle food bank.
Organized and run by members of the Carlyle RCMP Detachment, the morning event took place between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. in Fezziwig's Pub on Saturday, Dec. 4.
A full and filling hot breakfast was served to all for the low price of non-perishable food-item donations, cash donations, or both.
Also attending the event was Santa Claus, who spent the two hours meeting the guests, listening to wish lists, and playing with the young people who were happy to have a chance to see the man in advance of Christmas Day.
Almost the full detachment made time to attend the breakfast, bringing with them their families.
Serving up flapjacks and sausages, members had the opportunity to meet the community members and visitors whom they watch over in their professional capacity.
"We were quite happy with the turnout this year," said Staff Sgt. Phillip Harrison. "In the end, we had two overflowing grocery carts, and we raised a total of $109 in cash, which will go to help stock the food bank with needed groceries."
"Relative to last year, our numbers were actually down slightly," Harrison continued. "Despite that though we had great support from the 160 people who did come for the breakfast, so in terms of donations, the differences aren't that great."
The Carlyle food bank distributes food to those in need throughout the community and region.
Christmas hampers, to add a little extra for the holiday table, are distributed yearly through the food bank as well.
