SOUTHEAST SASKATCHEWAN - After an unusually warm and mainly dry September, Estevan is seeing more traditional fall weather during the first week of October.
Terri Lang, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said that they are expecting to see the first frost in the area by Friday morning.
"Right now, we got really strong winds, which is a big indicator of temperature change. When we get really strong winds, that means it's been really warm before, or really warm to the south and then colder to the north. And we haven't had widespread killing frost yet," Lang said.
"We do expect frost overnight tonight. The winds will calm down, the clouds will leave, the skies will clear, and we're going to be into that colder air. So, I think everybody, when they wake up tomorrow morning, is going to go, 'Oh, yeah, fall is here.'"
However, the warmer days are not over yet, Lang noted, as they are expecting enormously higher temperatures to hit the southeast corner on Thanksgiving weekend.
"We are expecting some very warm temperatures this weekend. We're expecting low to mid-20s. So not necessarily record-breaking but certainly warm for this time of year," Lang said.
