First week of Travis Patron's trial for hate crime wraps up in Estevan

ESTEVAN - The opening week of Travis Patron's trial hate crime trial has wrapped up in Estevan Court of King's Bench. 

The last of the Crown's witnesses testified on Wednesday. The defence did not call any witnesses. 

Closing statements are slated to occur Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. The judge is tentatively scheduled to read Patron's charge to the jury on Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. The jury will be sequestered until they reach a verdict. 

Patron, a Redvers man who is the former leader of the Canadian Nationalist Party, is facing one count of wilfully promoting hatred to an identifiable group, stemming from a video that was posted to YouTube in June 2019. The Carlyle RCMP announced the charge against Patron in February 2021.
