ESTEVAN — The winter conditions that arrived in the southeast last week resulted in several accidents in which the Estevan Fire Rescue Service members were called to the scenes.
On Oct. 25 at about 2:30 p.m., fire crews responded to a school bus rollover that occurred south of Benson along Highway 47.
"We confirmed that there were no children on the bus. It was just the driver," said Estevan Fire Chief Rick Davies. "Crews responded to that incident. The bus had tipped over after it lost control on the highway. The driver that was on board reported no significant injuries. Crews assessed the scene and helped with traffic control for a bit so we could get everything sorted out."
As firefighters left this scene and were returning to the station, they were called to a two-vehicle collision along Highway 39 west of the city. Crews diverted and responded to that incident. No injuries or entrapment occurred, so firefighters assisted at the location.
At that time a third call came in. A single-vehicle incident occurred just up the highways. One crew responded and assisted the driver. No injuries or entrapment were reported from that incident.
"All three incidents were just due to the road conditions at the time," Davies said.
Another call for service came on Oct. 29 at about 4 p.m. Crews were dispatched to a commercial fire alarm in a building on the southeast side of the city. A minor incident in the building produced enough smoke to set off the alarm, but no emergency was occurring. Crews assisted at the scene, cleaned up, reset the alarms and then returned to the station.
On Oct. 27, Estevan firefighters also helped with directing traffic and public safety at a popular Halloween attraction – the 小蓝视频ern Plains Co-op's Trail of Terror.
