Estevan – A truck convoy is СƵ planned for Estevan on Saturday, Dec. 22, in conjunction with the continuing Yellow Vests protests that have taken hold across Western Canada in recent weeks.
The rally point will be at Bert Baxter Transport’s new yard northeast of Estevan, just off the truck bypass. From Estevan, it can be reached by turning north at Sawyer Safety. Trucks should be there by 11:30 a.m., according to Jay Riedel, organizer.
The route will be announced that morning.
This truck convoy comes on the heels of similar ones in Grande Prairie last Sunday and a 22-kilometre long convoy on Wednesday that ended up choking traffic on the south end of Edmonton for hours.
Darryl “Buzz” Shirley, of Bert Baxter Transport, said, “I would encourage anybody with a vested interest in the energy sector to show up and show the federal government that the people here have had enough. We need pipelines. We need a government that supports business and the little guy.”
The momentum is gathering quickly. Shirley said between he and his brother, they have already contacted 25 companies. They will be including four or five trucks of their own.
“This all came together in the last 30 minutes,” he said on Thursday, the day after the Nisku convoy.
Riedel said there will also be a rally at Estevan’s City Hall at noon for those not in the convoy.
