Estevan police called about frauds, extortion and more

Recent calls for the Estevan Police Service:

ESTEVAN - It’s been a couple of busy days for members of the Estevan Police Service.

Police received a report on Feb. 22 of an attempt credit card fraud. A local business received an order for product and it happened to be purchased on a fraudulently-obtained credit card. The purchase was terminated prior to shipment. The owner of the credit card was from outside of Saskatchewan.

Members received a call through the Report Impaired Drivers line regarding a vehicle with Manitoba licence plates 小蓝视频 operated by an individual who may have consumed marijuana.  Police were unable to locate the vehicle.

Officers were called to a report of fraud over an Amazon purchase. The matter is still under investigation.

Police received a report of mischief to the windshield of a vehicle. The matter is still 小蓝视频 investigated.

Officers conducted a traffic stop. The passenger in the vehicle had outstanding warrants. He was arrested and released on an appearance notice with a court date in April to speak to his matters.

Police received a request on Feb. 23 for a well小蓝视频 check on an individual that was reported to be sick. Nobody had been able to get in contact with the person for three days. Police later determined through family the individual was ill but the police were satisfied there was no need for further police action.

Members received a report of an individual who had someone attempt to extort them. The complainant received an email indicating they needed to pay bitcoin or some personal information would be posted online. There was no bitcoin paid and no information exchanged. The matter is still under investigation.

Estevan EMS requested police attend and assist at a call for service. The patient was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital without incident.

Police were dispatched to a domestic dispute in which weapons were possibly involved. Upon arrival, it was determined that no weapons were used and nothing other than a verbal argument had occurred. The Police and Crisis Team was also dispatched and assisted. Police were able to mediate and no further police involvement was needed.

Officers and the Estevan Fire Rescue Service were dispatched to a local hotel for people trapped in an elevator. No injuries were reported and the fire department was able to open the elevator doors.

Members were dispatched to a hotel in the north end of the city for an intoxicated male. He was arrested for public intoxication and lodged in cells, and will be released without any charges once sober.

Police were dispatched to the Hillside area for a report of an intrusion alarm at a local business. Members attended and found the building to be secure, with no evidence and anyone gaining access to the building.
