Estevan and area residents will have their annual chance to get flipped, turned and spun beginning Monday.
The popular Estevan Fair is scheduled to begin Monday at the city's exhibition grounds. The three-day event will include a number of the traditional favourites such as the midway and Estevan Idol as well as some new additions such as the Keister Family Fiddlers of Medicine Hat.
Estevan Exhibition Association president Rodney Dukart said he is excited about the lineup for this year's fair.
"Estevan Idol will run all three nights and (the Keister family) will play before Idol, during the breaks and after Idol," said Dukart. "They perform all over Canada. We also have the domestic show, beer gardens and food booths."
Dukart said the Exhibition Association has also decided to have security on the fair grounds this year. The decision comes in the wake of the 2009 fair when a number of Estevan youths became involved in a series of violent incidents with the members of the Westcoast Amusements staff.
"We have extra security hired and the Estevan Police Service will be there," said Dukart. "We will not tolerate any trouble this year. There will be charges laid if it gets out of hand again.
"We are hoping if kids see people walking around with security shirts and radios on they will think twice before doing something stupid. We have the full commitment from the City police to be there. As soon as the security people see a group of kids forming, the City police will be called and they will be dispersed."
The gates to the fair will open at 4 p.m. each day. The cost of admission is $4. Bracelets can be purchased at the fair for $40. Advance bracelets for $27 can also be purchased at Classic Jewelers, Henders Drugs and Franks on 4th.
