Envision teaches women self-esteem

Envision Counselling and Support Centre will be holding a Ten Weeks to Self-Esteem Women's Group beginning February 16.

Envision Counselling and Support Centre will be holding a Ten Weeks to Self-Esteem Women's Group beginning February 16.

"Self-esteem is not boasting or bragging; instead, it is an honest understanding of an individual's internal strengths which allows a person to reach beyond their comfort zones," said Patt Lenover-Adams, Executive Director of Envision.

Lenover-Adams added that the group setting allows women to explore and increase their self-worth by relating to others who have been or are in similar situations. The group members will be encouraged to explore with one another ways in which they can develop strategies to increase their own self-esteem, in an effort to empower themselves in their everyday life.

Envision has run the self-esteem group for many years and one past participant related that the group, "helped me to feel great about myself and I now feel so much more in control and able to reach my goals and dreams."

Topics will focus on self-confidence, decision making, problem solving, empowerment and generally help members to believe in themselves. The group is ideal for women who have struggled with a lack of confidence in their personal or professional lives.

The group will be a closed group, which means no new members will be admitted once the sessions have started. Members will be asked to actively participate, as the more active a person is in the group, the more beneficial it will be.

The group will meet on Tuesday evenings and is open to women over the age of 18. There is no fee for the group but those interested must pre-register by contacting the Envision office. The registration deadline is February 11.
