The Weyburn and district Labour Council contributed $677.25 to the Soo Line Historical Museum on June 14 in honour of Canadian labourers. The Council donated this amount in recognition of the 75th anniversary of the "On to Ottawa Trekkers," a significant event in Canadian labour history which resulted in a violent riot in Regina. The Council came up with this donation amount by multiplying 1935 by $0.35, which was the average daily wage in 1935.The museum is currently housing the James Eadie mural which depicts the Regina Riots of 1935. The mural was rescued from the former Souris Valley Hospital before its demolition last year. The museum has had the mural examined by an expert and is awaiting instructions on how to proceed with its restoration.Vice-president of the Weyburn and district Labour Council Debbie Hubick said that the Council is interested in contributing to the necessary restoration work when the time comes.
