MOOSOMIN — Mark McCorriston would like to take a run at the job of Reeve in the RM of Moosomin. He’s been a councillor in Division 4 for six years, and believes it’s time for a change.
“I just thought after six years of 小蓝视频 a councillor — and I’ve had multiple people approach me about stepping up — that they just felt like maybe it’s time for a change again,” he said. “I’m happy with the job that Dave’s (Moffatt, current reeve) done over the years. I just feel sometimes in politics, it’s better to have a fresh point of view and just switch things up.”
When he first started on council, McCorriston only planned on serving for one term, but found he enjoyed the position.
“I’m a guy that’s spent my whole life in the RM of Moosomin, basically,” McCorriston said. “I have a unique perspective because I was a long haul trucker for quite a few years. So I’ve been in 17 different states and four different provinces, so I’ve seen a lot of other counties and other RMs over my travels, which gives me a kind of unique perspective on how things should be done here.”
As a mixed farmer, McCorriston also has the dual perspective of what grain and cattle producers prioritize. In speaking of priorities, McCorriston noted the importance of development within the RM, and how he’d like to see more big business set up shop.
“There’s definitely a few construction projects that I wouldn’t mind seeing get done that have been on the list around council, that just haven’t made it to the top of the list. There’s a few road projects I’d like to see done. I’m big fan of the airport and I want to make sure that gets done and finished properly.”
Filling currently empty lots in the industrial area is another priority item, building on the growth enjoyed in recent years.
“It’s awesome to see that growth and how much the area’s changed,” McCorriston said. “Another priority, again—I’m sure that we’re a little ways away—but the highway bypass has been thrown around the table. That’s a neat project that maybe it’s a little ways off in the future.”
On top of his duties as councillor, McCorriston is also vice-chair of the Pipestone Community Pasture.
