The Weyburn woman accused of giving birth in her home and putting her baby in a garbage bin back in May will be going to trial.

The Weyburn woman accused of giving birth in her home and putting her baby in a garbage bin back in May will be going to trial.

A preliminary hearing was held for 33-year-old Angela Vermeulen on October 12 in Weyburn Court where she was represented by Legal Aid lawyer James Struthers. Vermeulen has been committed to stand trial for disposing of the dead body of a child.

The charge of offering an indignity to human remains has been stayed.

Vermeulen has elected to appear in front of a Queen's Bench Judge. No date has been set for the trial as of yet.

Also in court on October 12 was a 56-year-old Weyburn man, who pled guilty to making child pornography available to the public.

He was sentenced to two years in a federal penitentiary, three years probation, lifetime registration on the sex offender registry, a DNA order, and a 20-year ban from playgrounds and other child-centred locations. He was also ordered to forfeit his computers and electronic devices.

The sentence was the result of a 2009 investigation by the Integrated Internet Child Exploitation Unit in Saskatchewan.
