Daniel Johnson has been quietly involved in many causes over the years, and most openly involved in the drug policy reform movement. He is currently the director, since 2007, of the Saskatchewan chapter of the National Organization For The Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML Saskatchewan), he has run the normlsaskatchewan.com website since 1998, and has been the organization's Regina spokesperson and event organizer since 2001.
In that capacity, he has long demanded reforms to the referendums and plebiscites act to make it easier for citizens to get important issues directly onto the ballot, he has opposed the NDP's SCAN act along with all other legislation that allows home evictions, property seizures/forfeitures and child apprehensions without solid evidence of criminal wrongdoing, and helped form the Sick Of Syringes volunteer needle pick-up project, which also called attention to the growing needle drug problem in Regina's inner city.
He has volunteered his time recording and promoting local artists through the joybuzzard.com website and the Joybuzzard Free Demo Project, which provides free 2-song demo recordings to musicians who can't afford professional studio time.
He has also been a vocal supporter of rent controls, and has always been opposed to environmentally hazardous ideas like clear-cut logging, tar sands development and nuclear waste dumps in Saskatchewan.
He has 2 daughters, aged 11 and 15, has lived in every part of Saskatchewan at different times, and currently resides in a tent at the Occupy Regina camp in downtown Regina.
