SWIFT CURRENT — The City of Swift Current is inviting the southwest, southeast, and all of southern Saskatchewan to #ComeTogetherSwiftCurrent, a weekend of shopping, music, car shows, sports, food, and a huge concert.
“It’s going to be a beautiful day. There’s something going on for everyone and that includes the children,” said Leanne Tuntland-Wiebe, who is both the primary sponsor through her business and the primary organizer through her position as a city councillor.
“It’s the whole community saying ‘thank you’ to all of our customers, and we want to show you how much we appreciate you by putting on these events. We want to tell everyone to come and have fun. Bring your kids, bring lots of cash, be ready for the day!”
Events begin on Thursday, August 18 with Sidewalk Days, organized by the Downtown Swift Current Association, and end on Saturday, Aug. 20 with a 7 p.m. concert featuring Duane Steele, Karissa Hoffart and Gord Bamford.
Not necessarily included, but certainly important, are a pair of sports tournaments.
Swift Current Minor Baseball is hosting the 13U AAA Western Canada Baseball Championship from August 18 to 21.
The brand-new 18-hole Swift Current Disc Golf Course is hosting the 17th Saskatchewan Open Disc Golf Tournament on August 20 and 21.

Swift Current Sidewalk Days
The downtown business community will take things outside to occupy the sidewalks. The businesses are cooperating to help promote one another and will offer discounts, contests, giveaways, and more.
Included in the downtown attractions is Swift Currents weekly summer farmer’s market.
Market Square
Market Square happens every Saturday from June 18 to September 24. Admission to the market, located on the corner Central Avenue and Chaplin Street, is free.
Hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
All the usual vendors will be out in force, with baked goods, arts and crafts, facepainting, henna, fresh produce, music, beverages, and the list continues.
Food Truck Wars
A delicious gathering of food trucks will be found in Swift Current’s Kinetic Park exhibition grounds from Friday evening to the end of Saturday.
There will a meal for every taste and although the war is metaphorical, these mobile restaurants will be presenting their best.
Eliminators Car Club 42nd Annual Riverside Run
Swift Current’s Eliminators Car Club will once again fill Elmwood Park with wildly varied vehicles.
The car show will be Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and there should be a car for every interest or at least many, many interesting cars.
Taking it to the Streets
The wrap-up concert is called "Taking it the Streets" and is on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Kinetic Park. This concert is the feather in the cap of Come Together Swift Current.
“We have three bands,” Tuntland-Wiebe explained. “We have Karissa Hoffart, she’s a brand-new homegrown talent. We have Duane Steele, who’s a Canadian country music star. And Gord Bamford agreed to come and he’s hotter than heck this year with his new album Diamonds in a Whiskey Glass. He’s knocked it out of the ballpark with that.”
The concert is free for those aged 17 and under, while the 18-and-up crowd get in for only $20.
The concert sponsors, Tuntland-Wiebe explained, actually pay for the concert. The 20$ entrance fee is used to support local non-profits and turn the concert into a charity event.
Beneficiaries of the concert include Swift Current’s Newcomer Welcome Centre, Saskabilities, the Salvation Army, 小蓝视频west Homes Swift Current, and the Canadian Mental Health Association.
