Carlyle RCMP detachment welcomed two new Constables to their detachment in October. Both relatively new to the profession, Carlyle is the second posting for each of the Constables.
Constable Alain Garceau is originally from Gatineau, Quebec. Starting his first shift in Carlyle on Oct. 18, Constable Garceau was previously posted in Northern Quebec as an investigator. Constable Garceau's dream of becoming an RCMP officer stems from his childhood role model.
"It was a childhood dream for me. It has to be a dream of yours, because it is hard getting through it all and getting to where we are right now, in terms of the training and everything. If it's not a dream or it's not a passion, I don't think a person would make it through training. I wanted to be a cop since I was a child. My role model was my Godfather who was an RCMP member."
"Before I started here, I worked a nine-to-five job and sometimes it would last for what seemed like forever. But here, I am up to my fifth shift at this point and time flies by. I sit down at my computer to do a report and it's time to go again. That I love."
Constable Tanya Gordon, originally from North Battleford, was stationed in Iqaluit immediately following graduation from Depot. Starting her first shift with the Carlyle detachment on Oct. 15, Constable Gordon is pleased to be stationed in Carlyle. "We have really enjoyed it so far. We have only been here for a week, but have already seen how close the community can get."
As for her favourite thing about the job, Constable Gordon said "I really enjoy the investigation part of it, because you get to look into things. And you get to deal with a variety of different things. Nothing is ever the same. Every call you go to, or every person you talk to, can be from a different background. In each place you are stationed, there is a different culture and there is a variety of different people that you deal with on a daily basis."
The Carlyle RCMP detachment has, on average, a total of 13 members. Members include 10 Constables, two Corporals and one Staff Sergeant.
