Carlyle Sports Arena saw more than 500 spectators fill the building to watch the Estevan Bruins play off against the Notre Dame Hounds on Nov. 2 in Carlyle.
Spectators watched as the Bruins showed the Hounds their skills in a game that resulted in a final score of 8-3. The game was close with a score of 3-3 after the second period leaving those in attendance wondering what the third period would bring.
As the spectators waited for the final period to begin, they were treated to a game with players from the Carlyle six-and-under hockey team. Those in attendance watched as the little ones chased the puck around the ice during the five-minute game.
Going into the third, the Bruins lit up the score board with an additional five goals. Two of those goals were as a result of local Ben Johnstone, who put on a show-stopping performance in front of his hometown crowd by scoring a hat trick. These three goals doubled the rookie forward's goal total bringing his total points to nine since the start of the regular season.
CanElson, the major sponsor for the Estevan Bruins, was pleased to be able to bring the skilled level of hockey to Carlyle and area.
Along with the game, the Bruins had a number of local events that kept the team busy during Nov. 1 and 2. Leaving the bus on Tuesday from Estevan, the team's first order of business was visiting Carlyle Elementary School and Manor School. Spending the full afternoon at the schools, the children were treated to an afternoon of hockey players and fun.
Following the afternoon at the schools, the Bruins took to the ice to practice, followed by a skate with the public at the Carlyle rink where individuals from all age ranges could partake in the fun.
