Amanda Farnel and Lucinda Fawcett were in the Assiniboia & District Public Library on the afternoon of May 24th in the Kay Cristo Room to promote the Saskatchewan Festival of Words, an annual occasion in Moose Jaw set for July 19 to the 22nd. Many of the programs for the four-day book-happening will be held in different venues throughout the city, including the Moose Jaw Public Library and the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre.

The Saskatchewan Festival of Words is gaining popularity throughout the country. 鈥淎ll across Canada, people make this festival their summer destination,鈥 Farnell said. Moose Jaw鈥檚 annual literary affair has appeared in several journals and newspapers, including Quill & Quire and the Globe and Mail. Gary Hyland, a well-known Saskatchewan poet, was the founding member and coordinator of this national festival in 1996 in Moose Jaw 鈥 a city he cherished all his life.

Writers, readers, students and booklovers alike will enjoy this festival, now in its 22nd year. Although many of the festival events are free, some listings in the program 鈥 such as lectures, films, the poetry slam competition and the Trivia Night will require nominal door fees. A multitude of literary tastes will be represented in Moose Jaw, as several Canadian writers are hosting presentations at the festival, including Angie Abdou, Beth Goobie and Ivan Coyote.

Individual session tickets are available, starting at $10. Early bird 2018 Festival Passes are priced at $175, with prices increasing after June 1st at $200. Flex Passes are also on sale for $25. Tickets will be sold through the box office at the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre. For more information on the festival, you can go to the website for the Saskatchewan Festival of Words @ or phone 1-306-691-0557.
