The Big Brothers and Big Sisters Association of Weyburn will be looking to fill a few vacant spots on their board at their upcoming annual general meeting, set for Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 6 p.m.
This year the meeting will be held in the board room at Community Futures Sunrise, at 11 Third Street NE in Weyburn.
According to executive director Amy Mohr, 2010 was a year of accomplishments for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Weyburn. The annual Kids 'N Kops summer day camp was a huge success, with 16 children participating, and having a summer filled with fun and new experiences.
The children, all registered in other Big Brothers Big Sisters programs, developed new skills that will stay with them, said Mohr.
Also, the In-school Mentoring program saw numerous children matched with high school mentors. The program is a one-hour once-a-week mentoring opportunity, and friendships were made that will last beyond the academic year.
The organization will be voting for its 12-member board during the business part of the annual meeting. With some spots available, those interested are asked to contact Mohr for additional information on becoming a Big Brothers board member. The time commitment is minimal, but the rewards are immense.
The mission of Big Brothers and Big Sisters is to enhance the healthy development of children, youth and their families through positive mentoring relationships. The organization also strives to contribute to the community with healthy, happy families, where children realize their value and self-worth.
