The Bienfait Public Library is open once again.
After having to close down due to the lack of a local librarian, the Bienfait Library's board announced this past week that the public facility is open for business once again.
The library had been closed for about a month, but they have now accessed the talents of Mary Rose Boyer who will serve as the librarian following some training sessions.
The board and community celebrated the re-opening with a tea and social yesterday (Tuesday), noting that the schedule for the library's public access will be the same as before.
The library closed on Oct. 29 following several months of discussion with the regional library administration in Weyburn. The Bienfait branch had been without a head librarian since May and they had simply run out of options. But when Boyer stepped forward in late November, the wheels were put in motion again for a re-opening.
Boyer said that she will be looking for an assistant to help her with the various duties that will require doing to enable the branch to remain open and active.
"We're really happy to make this announcement, " said Sharon Wells, a Roche Percee representative on the local library board.
The Bienfait Library will be open on Mondays from 3 to 6 p.m. and from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays. On Wednesdays, the library will open in the morning at 9 o'clock and close at noon. On Thursdays, the branch hours are from 2 to 5 p.m.
"We expect to introduce some library programs once everything gets settled again," said Wells.
"We now need the local people to return to the Bienfait Library. We know some have been making good use of the Estevan Library while we were closed. Now we're going to try to get them back, increase our circulation of books and materials," she said.
The library offers computer Internet services and library book and material drop-off services as well as the traditional free book lending and information services.
