An antique John Deere tractor, a rare version of one of the first-ever four-wheel drive tractors, was sold at a recent auction for $90,000 by Mack Auction Co. of Estevan.

The auctioneers held a farm equipment sale for the Pranke family at Moosomin, and offered up a John Deere 8020, one of 74 known to exist in the world.

A bidding war erupted with live Internet bidding, and bidders in attendance, before the hammer fell at the $90,000 price, and the tractor was sold to a collector from Durand, Wisconsin, who was present at the sale.

"We knew we had found a diamond in the rough when we listed the sale for the Prankes," said auctioneer Norm Mack.

"This tractor created quite a stir in the agricultural world, because until now it was not known what had become of it," he added.

This 8020 John Deere was the first four-wheel-drive tractor which has been copied since by modern-day tractors. This tractor was in use by the Prankes in their farming operation, and is completely original, which was considered a factor in the final bid.
