On June 18, Anthony Green rolled through Assiniboia on his bicycle after a night of camping in Rockglen. Green began his venture at home in Chattanooga Tennessee. He left Tennessee on May 21 with a tent, a sleeping bag and other necessities with the objective of biking into Banff Alberta this summer.
The former probation officer frequently travels on his bicycle to different places each year, but this might be one of his most challenging bike journeys yet. 鈥淚 do a couple of these trips a year. But this is the longest trip I鈥檝e ever done.鈥�
Previously, Green has travelled to places like Santa Fe New Mexico, which is a 2,153.4- kilometre roundtrip from Chattanooga. He鈥檚 also ridden to other destinations in the U.S. such as Florida. But this year, Green decided to do ride up into Canada to see the Rockies. And so far, he鈥檚 impressed with the generosity shown by Canadians. 鈥淟ast night I camped in Rockglen. A lady came to the campground and asked me to join herself and her husband for breakfast.鈥�
Green has often received positive responses mixed with compassion and inquisitiveness whenever he鈥檚 on a bike tour. 鈥淲hen you see a person on a bike, they approach you.鈥� He鈥檚 been offered places to stay for the night as well as meals along the way. 鈥淭hese bike trips have taught me that people are good and caring. That鈥檚 what inspires me to do these trips.鈥�
Years ago, Green toured around Lake Superior in a van, but this is his first visit to Western Canada. 鈥淚 didn鈥檛 know what to expect, but I鈥檓 glad I came up here.鈥�
Aside from the kindness people in Saskatchewan have shown him, he鈥檚 also pleased with the road conditions so far. 鈥淧eople in Montana were telling me the roads were bad in Saskatchewan, but the roads in Minnesota were much worse,鈥� Green confirmed.聽聽
