Alameda will be home to the 34th annual Alameda Flower Show and Tea on Aug. 14. The show, normally held on a Monday, has been moved to Sunday in an attempt to bring in more entries and visitors. The event, which is open to the public from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m., is sure to attract plenty of each.
For those individuals with a green thumb, this is an event made in heaven. The flower show, which attracts flower arrangements from people of all ages and skills, is not only an opportunity to showcase your own skills, but to also appreciate the skills of others with entries from throughout the region filling the Alameda School auditorium.
Exhibitors will be able to compete in three distinct classes including Houseplants, Cut Flowers and Specials. These classes are further broken down into different sections. The top three in each receive prizes, along with a best in show prize and an overall prize for the exhibitor with the most points.
Last year, 19 exhibitors displayed more than 240 entries. As a result, even for those of you who lack in the green-thumb department, you will not be disappointed.
For those wishing to enter, you can do so on Sat, Aug. 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. or on the morning of Aug. 14 from 8 to 10:30 a.m. For more information, contact Jamie Neuman, one of the event organizers, at 453-2737.
