The City of Weyburn airport plays an important role in the community and a recent investment by the provincial government has given it a much needed upgrade.

The Community Airport Partnership (CAP) program through the Government of Saskatchewan chipped in 50 per cent of the $129,000 total cost for the rehabilitation of the Weyburn Airport main runway.

The rehabilitation included milling and repaving of identified problem areas, and reinforcement of the surface where necessary. These upgrades help reestablish the runway鈥檚 integrity for takeoff and landing.

鈥淭he airport is a vital service for Weyburn and surrounding area,鈥 said City of Weyburn Director of Engineering Jennifer Wilkinson. 鈥淭his rehabilitation helps ensure that we are providing a high level of service to recreational and commercial users of the airport. Most importantly it ensures we have a well maintained facility for when local residents need air emergency services.鈥

The Government of Saskatchewan contributed a record $1.5 million to improvements at 15 community airports in the 2020-21 Budget. Some of the other communities that benefited from the program include Humboldt, Leader, Melfort, North Battleford, Unity and Wynyard.
