Hundreds of semi-trailer units made their way through the streets of Estevan and the surrounding area on Saturday, as part of a truck convoy to show support for the oil and gas industry, and to protest some of the decisions made by the federal government.

The convoy, which consisted of 427 trucks, most of them semis, started at the Bert Baxter Transport yard northeast of Estevan, and moved south to the junction of the truck bypass and Highway 39. The trucks then headed west towards Estevan, reaching the city limits just after 12 p.m. The truckers honked their horns as they rolled by.听

They made their way down Fourth Street, then headed north on Sister Roddy Road, east on King Street and south on Kensington Avenue before dispursing.听

People lined the streets of the convoy route to watch the trucks roll past. Many cheered as the trucks rolled past, while others honked their horns to show support.

Those involved with the local Yellow Vest Movement, gathering in front of City Hall for the second straight week, were particularly vocal.听

It took almost an hour for all of the trucks to drive past city hall.听

The Mercury will have more on this story later.
