CARLYLE - This summer, the R.M. of Moose Mountain finalized the purchase of their new location at 250 Eighth Street West in Carlyle. While the main building is not very old, it has been home to a number of different oilfield service companies.
Some may even recognize this as the local provincial election polling station in past years.
“We have centralized both working offices and machinery storage facilities onto one property,” said RM administrator Sandra McClement.
With the purchase of 139 acres of land and three buildings brings opportunity for them to expand their services. Buildings include a spacious office with board room and main shop attached, a heated Quonset and a cold storage shop. The RM now has their own freightliner, trailer and loader for gravel hauling to further complete their own routine road maintenance.
The office, shop and land bring room for growth and convenience of their office and public works staff working closer together. The RM still owns their shop in Manor where one of their two road graders are housed.
The previous Carlyle shop/storage buildings are still presently owned on Seventh Street West in Carlyle and currently listed for sale.
A statement from the RM office says: “From 2014-2021, the RM office staff had the pleasure of sharing a portion of the Carlyle Civic Centre and working closely with the Town of Carlyle. We certainly miss the town office staff and the convenience of working from Main Street, but we are only a phone call, email or visit away. We are committed to having a close relationship with both urban municipalities within the RM boundaries, the Town of Carlyle and Village of Manor.”
McClement has worked for the RM for seven years and has been capably mentored by now-retired RM administrator Ron Matsalla, along with assistant administrator Kim Cassibo, who has been in the RM system for five years. Wade Fox of Manor and Bob Phenix of Alida are co-foremen of the maintenance crew, splitting and sharing duties between the east and west halves of the municipality – each having approximately 25 years of experience.
Seasonal maintenance workers and operators Lorne Rose and Slade Burnett both have approximately five years of experience in RM maintenance work.
RM of Moose Mountain Council includes Reeve Kelly Brimner, and Councillors Donald Boutin, Rick Burnett, Rick DeGeer, Alex Eisler, Jack Wilson and Mitch Weber.
On Sept. 22, the RM of Moose Mountain will celebrate its 110th incorporation anniversary.
“Please come out for a coffee, tour the new buildings and view some of the historical pieces we have for our area anytime – our office is open to the public Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.,” added McClement.
