The Saskatchewan Cattlemen鈥檚 Association (SCA) contributed up to $1 million to partner with the Government of Saskatchewan in offsetting the COVID-19 impacts on the Western Livestock Price Insurance Program (WLPIP) premiums.
On May 14, Minister David Marit announced the Government of Saskatchewan would offset the increase in premiums with $5 million of provincial funds.
This statement from the government followed advocacy at the provincial and national levels and a commitment from the SCA board to fund an initiative to help deal with COVID-19 impacts on WLPIP premiums.
Work to bring the federal government to the table to cover the rest of the premium increase continued. Federal participation hasn鈥檛 happened yet, but SCA鈥檚 commitment remains. The details on the commitment from the SCA and the provinicial government are finalized.听
SCA鈥檚 contribution is up to $1 million to match the province鈥檚 $5 million 鈥 these figures will offset an additional eight per cent of the COVID-19 impact on premium.

Cow-calf producers are entering the final week to purchase calf price insurance through WLPIP, following the deadline extension from May 28 to June 18.
