SaskPower has provided an update on the efforts to restore power to people across the province.

The Crown corporation experienced a large number of outages last night, from as far northeast as Nipawin and as far southwest as Maple Creek. Many of these communities were without power overnight, as conditions were unsafe to work in, due to high winds and blowing snow.

There were widespread outages in Estevan and southeast Saskatchewan over the past 24 hours. Most of the power was restored for Estevan early Thursday, and crews have been working to restore the rest of the power.

Customers in the Stoughton and Midale areas have a power restoration time of midnight tonight.

There are currently about 321 outages resulting in 37,000 customers without power (which is down from 80,000 previously reported). Several communities will remain without power overnight tonight, as conditions have remained unsafe to conduct repairs.

鈥淲e thank our customers for their ongoing understanding and patience during this extreme weather event,鈥 SaskPower said in a news release.

The outage centre has fielded over 63,000 calls between 10 a.m. Wednesday and 4 p.m. Thursday.

Crews are currently patrolling lines all over the province to determine where the issues are, and which ones can be repaired immediately.

Saskatchewan Landing, Kyle and other rural areas south of Elrose are some of the communities whose power will remain off overnight.

In the Weyburn district, which includes 800 urban and 1,200 rural customers, extending to Halbrite and Radville, SaskPower says there may be some progress later this evening.

Crews will work hard to restore power to these areas as soon as conditions allow. Should any customers experience a new outage, the number to call is 310-2220 or they can report it on our website at saskpower.com/outages.

When conducting repairs, SaskPower prioritizes restoring power to essential services such as medical facilities, care homes, and police and fire stations, and then focuses on restoring power to as many customers as possible as quickly as possible. SaskPower is working closely with provincial and municipal agencies during the storm response.

People are reminded to maintain a safe distance if they come across a downed power line or damaged SaskPower infrastructure, and to call SaskPower to report the damage.
