The Torquay Community Club has received another donation as they continue to make upgrades to the village鈥檚 arena.

The club received a $20,000 donation from Richardson Pioneer on March 24. The money will be directed towards the purchase of a new Zamboni. They will also be able to make other upgrades to the arena, like replacing the arena lights, painting the building, developing a scheduling board and installing a heating system for the viewing area.

鈥淭he savings we will incur from this project will allow us to operate our arena more often and sets us up for many prosperous years ahead, which could include hosting more hockey teams and events like family skate nights,鈥 said Nicki Berg, the treasurer for the Torquay Community Club.

鈥淲ith these upgrades, we expect a great response from our community and surrounding area.鈥

Richardson Pioneer鈥檚 contribution came from the Richardson Foundation, which is the giving arm of James Richardson and Sons Limited, and affiliated companies. In 2015, Richardson donated over $1.65 million to support 70 community projects and organizations across Canada. Richardson helps funds initiatives that have demonstrated support and funding from the local community.

鈥淩inks in any community, especially smaller ones, are focal points for community members to get together throughout the year,鈥 said Randy Riege, director of operations for Richardson Pioneer Estevan. 鈥淲hen we invest in these projects, we are investing in something bigger than a Zamboni. Sports and recreation are important building blocks in the children鈥檚 and community鈥檚 development.鈥
