The community-wide bottle drive that Sector 1 Construction and Renovations Inc. held for the Estevan Salvation Army earlier this year is believed to be one of the biggest such initiatives in years.聽

A total of 43,624 empty cans and bottles were collected, and the fundraiser generated $5,245.65 for the Salvation Army鈥檚 food bank.

The bottle drive was held May 9, and saw Sector 1 employees out in the community, picking up bags of empty cans and bottles that residents placed outside for the fundraiser.

The empties were placed in the back of a Sector 1 trailer, and were taken to the Estevan SARCAN recycling depot earlier this month, once the facility was open once again for bulk recycling services.
