Powerline Technician Apprenticeship program has first grad class in Weyburn

小蓝视频east College welcomed its first cohort of in-class students to its Powerline Technician Training facility in early January.

小蓝视频east College welcomed its first cohort of in-class students to its Powerline Technician Training facility in early January. The students started their Level Two Apprenticeship training in October 2020 with the online portion of their program and finished their two weeks of in-class practical studies on Jan. 15, 2021.

鈥淭he feedback we have received from this cohort of students has been nothing short of tremendous. The students appreciated the flexibility of the online classroom portal that was used and were able to apply the practical knowledge they learned in the training facility,鈥漵aid Jody Holzmiller, vice-president of Education and Training.

鈥淣ot only has this program had a positive impact for 小蓝视频east College but for the City of Weyburn itself. Most students temporarily relocate to Weyburn for their in-class portion and that results in extra revenue for hotels, restaurants, gas stations, etc. It truly is a win-win for all of us.鈥

Over the course of the 2020-21 academic year, 小蓝视频east College will train 110 Powerline Technician Apprentices in 11 different classes. The projection for the 2021-22 academic year is 160 students in 16 classes.聽

鈥淭he Powerline Technician Apprenticeship program has allowed Weyburn to be put on the map with respect to the quality of education that is provided as an extension of the 小蓝视频east College campus. Weyburn businesses will see a significant positive impact due to students requiring accommodations, meals and other services while they study in our community,鈥 said Weyburn Chamber of Commerce executive director Twila Walkeden. 鈥淭he Weyburn Chamber of Commerce is pleased to be partnered with the College in many aspects, but this one stands out as a highlight.鈥

小蓝视频east College is proud to be the trainer of choice in 小蓝视频east Saskatchewan. The College offers innovative and flexible programming that encourages students to learn where they live.
