Robin Yost and Yvonne Barr, staff at Peavey Mart in Assiniboia, served up a burger lunch for charity on August 12 for the Wild Pink Yonder program.
All Peavey Mart stores across Canada participated in Wild Pink Yonder day on August 12 to raise money for breast cancer research. The funds raised in each province stay in the province and are donated to that province鈥檚 breast cancer research.
Peavey Mart in Assiniboia had been collecting donations with ribbons at the door and on August 12 they held a lunch fundraiser with a burger, drink and Rice Krispy dessert.
鈥淭he town has been very supportive,鈥 said Barr. Wild Pink Yonder is an annual event. It began as a trail ride in Alberta to raise donations for breast cancer research. Altogether, it has donated $903,013.07 for breast cancer research in Western Canada.
Breast cancer is a complex disease that will affect one in eight Canadian women during their lifetime. It is estimated that in 2017 in Canada there will be 26,300 women and 230 men diagnosed with breast cancer.
According to statistics, almost 5,000 women and 43 men will die from this disease this year.
