“I chose to open in Assiniboia,” said Kayla Hochlander, owner of Vybe Hair Studio on Main Street, “because it is central to everything. Everyone comes into town. We have regular customers from all around including Glentworth, Rockglen, Coronach, and more.”
Hochlander grew up and attended school in Rockglen. “I went to Moose Jaw for hair school in 2017, and then apprenticed here in Assiniboia and got my journeyman’s certificate. I had always wanted to have my own hair salon. I didn’t think it would happen this soon, but given the opportunity I decided to take it. I couldn’t have done it without my parents.”
Like the name “Vybe” which she chose for her hair studio, her salon is easy to remember, and trendy. “We’re like new, modern, and more trendy. We’re in the younger age range, and we keep up with all the new styles. We’re willing to do anything.”
Hochlander mentioned that while they might appeal to the younger crowd, they have regular customers from every demographic, and they are more than willing to serve any age bracket or style.
All hair services from cuts and colours to extensions are offered at Vybe. They also provide sugaring and waxing.
“We will have a few pop-up guests too. We plan to get some people in for eyelash extensions or we’re open to other ideas as well. We’ve thought about doing ‘Braid Nights’ or other evenings where the girls can come to try a new style and have a glass of wine together. It’s nice and relaxing to come and hang out, get your hair done, and make yourself feel better.”
Weddings have already been booked. “They are bringing in their own make-up artists. We plan to cater to weddings, grads, and other group events.”
Staff at Vybe include Kayla Hochlander, owner and manager, as well as Angela Demenciuk. “She is a journeyman hairstylist and has had several years experience. Emily Stewart is also apprenticing under us.”
Walk-ins are welcome. “We are very accommodating. We are here early and we work late. Please call 306-640-8860 for appointments or information.”
