The carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility at SaskPower鈥檚 Boundary Dam Power Station had another productive month in August.
The facility captured 62,281 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2), compared to the 12-month average of 56,487 tonnes, and produced 511 tonnes of sulfuric acid from captured sulfur dioxide.
The facility was online 78.4 per cent of the month, coming offline for 161 hours to accommodate outages at Unit 3 at Boundary Dam. In the previous 12 months, the facility had been online 75.1 per cent of the time, but that number includes August 2018, when it was offline due to repairs from a storm that hit earlier in the year.
The facility produced a little more than 90 megawatts of power on average, compared to the 12-month average of 100.6 megawatts.
The average daily capture rate was 2,400 tonnes of CO2, with a peak one-day capture of 2,876 tonnes.
The daily capture rate for the previous 12 months was 2,106 tonnes.
A total of 2,868,472 tonnes of CO2 have been captured since operational startup in October 2014. So far this year, 403,129 tonnes have been captured.
